Black Tie is a dress code for social functions that usually take place in the evening. These types of events are more sophisticated outings than your regular social gathering or business function. Black Tie occasions include balls, galas, formal weddings and so on, the guests are expected to be dressed to impress.

Variations include changing the traditional lapel from a shawl collar to a peak or notch lapel style. To add a modern twist on Black Tie, gents can look to swap the black wool jacket and select a velvet fabric with colour, be it burgundy or navy. On some occasions, a black necktie over a bow tie and a black suit over a tuxedo can be acceptable.
